PETE CORMIER
Director
Pete is a writer, former adjunct professor, mindfulness guide, and the founder and director of The Awareness Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes mindfulness through artistic expression. In the last five years, his organization produced more than 100 workshops in which mindfulness was integrated with either art-making or movement. Pete received formal training in mindfulness from the Center for Mindfulness at UMass Memorial and Calmer Choice, an organization that mentors, trains and teaches evidence-based mindfulness in school systems on Cape Cod. Pete has blogged about mindfulness since 2016 at www.petecormier.com. He has a BA in Sociology from Notre Dame University, a MS in Non-Profit Management from Worcester State University and a Ph.D. in Educational Studies from Lesley University. His dissertation focused on the transformative power of art and community connections, The Engagement Practices of Performing Arts Makers: A Phenomenal Case Study of Prometheus Bound, was published on ProQuest in 2011. He is currently at work on his book, Engaging the Mindful Self: A 4-Step Practice of Discovery.
Pete is excited to join the board of Breath & Sound because he believes in the healing power of mindfulness, meditation and sound work. “When mindfulness and art-making is thoughtfully integrated and presented in a group setting, it has the potential to positively impact the well-being of people on a physical, emotional, social and spiritual level.”
