BREATH
Yogies believe that the quality of your breath equals the quality of your life. Let's make a quick experiment. Take a comfortable seat, close your eyes, and start noticing your breath. Breathe normally but start paying full attention to your breath. Is it deep and long or short and shallow? Now start making those breaths a little bit deeper. Inhale with your whole front of the body. Exhale fully, sight it out and create the sound with your breath. Repeat a couple more times. Now pause. Feel the difference.
BREATH IS YOUR ANCHOR
And if you keep paying attention to your breath, you will eventually start using it as an anchor, your "coming back" point. You may sit in silence but your mind is busy trying to figure out life, gently draw your attention back to your breath. Now you start noticing all the sounds that are taking place at the same present moment. Come back to your breath. Finally, you become uncomfortable in the position you are sitting in. Let it go and use your breath as your anchor. Even one minute of such a practice is proven to better your mood, your emotional state, and even your interaction with other people. Practicing breath awareness daily opens up a whole new world where you start to take control of your life fully, simply by taking control of your breath.
BREATH AND HEALING
Taking control of your breath is one of the most ancient healing practices. It lays under the 8-limbs path of Yoga by Patanjali. However, it is important to note that Pranayama (practice of breath control) stands under the Asana practice (practice of physical posture). And one needs a strong connection to his physical body before practicing breath techniques. Gladly Yoga practice of Asana naturally complements a participant with a strong body-breath connection and full awareness of the Self. Thus one should start practicing Asana on his journey.
Getting more familiar with the benefits of breath brings us closer to the term of breathwork. Breathwork is a form of intense breathing exercise under the guidance of a facilitator. This is a relatively new approach that came to the West in the 19th century. However, the root of it lies in Eastern practices like Yoga, Taichi, and Buddhism. Breathwork is considered to be one of the quickest and most efficient tools of awakening and healing. At Breath and Sound, we believe that any form of practice brings benefits and results if it is used with the right mindset and intention. Learn what breathing practices can benefit you!
